Accessibility statement

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA — opens in a new tab.

Conformance status: partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard, but some parts described below do not yet fully meet it or have not been formally assessed.

• A “Skip to content” link, one main landmark per page, and semantic header, navigation and footer regions so screen-reader and keyboard users can move quickly.
• One clear page heading per page with a logical heading order, and page titles that describe where you are.
• Full keyboard operation: every menu, filter, dialog, form and map control can be reached and used with the keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
• Text and interface colours chosen from a fixed palette. Our brand and category colours now meet the enhanced 7:1 contrast ratio of WCAG 2.2 Level AAA (1.4.6) against white and against their own tints, and information is never conveyed by colour alone.
• Labels on every form field, clear error messages in text, and standard autocomplete on email, password and one-time-code fields so sign-in does not rely on memory (WCAG 2.2 “Accessible Authentication”).
• Tap targets of at least 44 × 44 px on touch screens, and layouts that reflow to a 320 px-wide screen without horizontal scrolling or loss of content.
• The home page background video is decorative, silent, has a visible pause control and does not autoplay when your device asks for reduced motion.
• Meaningful images have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• The map is not the only way to search. Every place on the map is also available as a list of results with the same filters, and the map offers button controls for panning, zooming and recentring so no dragging is required.
• Search results announce the number of matches politely to screen readers when filters change.
• Accessibility information on each listing is structured, described in words, and states when a detail has not been verified rather than implying it is accessible.
• No accessibility overlay or accessibility widget is used. Overlays often break assistive technology; we fix the underlying pages instead.

We are aware of the following and are working on them:

• Interactive map. The map is exposed to assistive technology as an application region, so screen-reader browsing behaves differently inside it. Use the results list, which contains the same places, filters and links.
• Listing content supplied by hosts. Descriptions, photo captions and uploaded documents come from accommodation providers, tour operators and other partners. We review submissions, but wording quality and photo descriptions vary.
• Blog attachments. Some downloadable guides are PDFs that may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will send the content in another format.
• Third-party map tiles. Map imagery is provided by an external service and its visual contrast is outside our control.
• Machine translation and AI-assisted search. Generated text is not manually reviewed for plain-language quality on every result.

If any part of WheelTribe stops you from finding a place, saving a trip or contacting a provider, email us and we will help you directly — including searching on your behalf and sending you the results in the format you prefer (plain text email, large print, or an accessible document).

We want to hear about barriers. Email info@wheeltribe.eu with the subject line “Accessibility” and, if you can, include:

• the web address of the page, or a description of where you were;
• what you were trying to do and what happened instead;
• the device, browser and any assistive technology you use (for example iPhone with VoiceOver, or Windows with NVDA) — only if you know it.

We acknowledge reports within 5 working days, tell you what we plan to do, and give a timescale for the fix. Where a fix will take time, we offer an alternative way to get the information or complete the task in the meantime.

If you are not satisfied with our response, reply to our email saying so and a different member of the team will review it.

The site was assessed by the WheelTribe team using a combination of automated testing with axe-core across twelve public pages — home, search, map, blog, sign-in, about, contact, for hosts, this statement, the cookie policy, the tester page and a listing page — at desktop (1280 px) and 320 px widths, plus manual keyboard testing, zoom and reflow checks, and a code review of headings, landmarks, labels, contrast tokens and focus handling against the WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria, with an additional check against the AAA enhanced contrast criterion. No formal third-party audit or certification has been carried out.

In the review of 2 September 2026 we corrected the definition-list markup used for listing location and provenance details, made the cookie policy table's scrollable area reachable and visible by keyboard, and darkened the brand and category colours so text meets the enhanced 7:1 contrast ratio. The automated scan now reports no contrast, list-structure or scrollable-region issues on the pages tested.
